City of Torrance recognized for outstanding achievement

Last month, The City Clerks Association of California (CCAC) rewarded City Clerk Sue Hebers with the Award of Distinction for Voter Outreach.

The distinguished honor was awarded by Ms. Hebers’ peers across the state, marking statewide recognition of outstanding achievement.

Nanci Lima, President of the CCAC, said:

"The Torrance Votes community voter outreach program promotes the education of the voting public on candidates and local politics while being neutral, impartial and non-partisan. This program respects the right of each voter to their own unique political, ethical and moral ideology."

The Torrance Votes project is an education initiative. Designed to engage residents in the democratic process, the goal of the project is to assist voters in developing the skills needed to more readily research candidates and expand political awareness of the issues.

Quality participation in local government benefits both residents and the business community. Whether a renter concerned about landlord/tenant issues or the owner of a printing company interested in city recycling concerns, good municipal governance is important for the well-being of all Torrance citizens.

Ms. Hebers, who will be retiring this June, gave a statement about her award, saying:

“To have been recognized by my peers on the recommendation of the Mayor and city is the highest honor a City Clerk can receive…and credit is shared with all who helped create our successful project.”
