Stockton searches for new police chief

A nationwide search is underway in the city of Stockton for the next Chief of Police.

The city has developed a survey to gather feedback from the community about their needs and expectations and the characteristics of the person they expect to be in this position which is one of the busiest and most highly regarded agencies of law enforcement in the United States.

Such recruitment efforts often turn to brochure printing so that such materials can be distributed throughout a region and throughout the country. The city is looking for a person who is committed to customer service, with high integrity, and honest and transparent in all relationships. It is also looking to attract high-quality candidates and hire the person who best meets the needs of the community.

The Stockton Police Department has over 150 civilian personnel and over 400 sworn police officers with a total of 712 full-time employees. The budget for the department is about $143 million for the 2021-2022 fiscal year.

Harry Black, city manager, said this is a rigorous process and rightly so. He added that in the upcoming days and weeks, the city will engage with the community in an honest and open conversation about the search for the next police chief. The city is encouraging everyone to participate in the process.

It is hoped to have a new chief sworn in by early to mid-spring.
