An act of kindness by a Stockton resident helped to make for a better holiday season for both her the other person involved.
Starla Beltran, who works at the Bagel Express Delicafe, recently found a wallet that was stuffed with cash. All told, it contained $4,000. She found it in the parking lot of the shopping center where she worked. She noted that, while at first she felt a temptation to keep the money for herself as she was going through some tough times, she knew that would not be the right thing to do.
After a good night’s sleep she checked the wallet for ID, and was surprised to discover that its owner lived nearby. She went over to return it.
Tony Sumahit, who had lost the wallet a few days before, was very grateful for her honesty. He remarked to a KXTV reporter that it brought tears to his eyes to think that someone who was having financial issues in her life would look past them and put herself in his shoes, thinking of how it would have felt if it had been her that had lost a large sum of money.
He further went on to say that the reason he had such a large amount was because he had taken it out to make a down payment for a car, but had decided not to do so. Flyers can help to get the word out in a situation like this where an item has been lost.
