Affordable housing project to come to Stockton

Ground has been broken on a new affordable housing community in downtown Stockton. A site once owned by the state will become 94 homes for low-income residents.

The project is made possible by the Excess Sites program, which is a partnership between the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) and the California Department of General Services (DGS). The program identifies land owned by the state that is available for housing, and then awards these sites to affordable housing developers through a long-term lease.

The development is to be known as La Passeggiata, and is on East Lindsey Street. It will have two buildings, one of which will be five stories high and the other six stories. A breezeway will connect the buildings. There will be 39 apartments with one or two bedrooms in the five-story building, and 55 apartments with two or three bedrooms in the six-story building. Rooftop gardens, energy-efficient appliances, and solar energy will be among the perks available.

Such new projects can benefit from brochure printing to provide more details on their features and amenities.

Ana M. Lasso, director of the California DGS, said the project will provide homes for many families in the area who are looking for affordable housing. She added that it is also an example of the collaboration of local, state, and non-profit organizations to deliver such housing throughout California.
