Stockton receives funds for park improvements

The Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Grant Program of the government of California has awarded $3.4m to the city of Stockton.

The renovations will take place at Columbus Park on W. North Street. These funds will be used to develop a new playground, an adult fitness center, a picnic shelter, sports courts, restrooms, pathways and lighting, public art, and landscaping. Also planned are an educational area and a community garden, all with granite trails. Details of such plans are often provided with flyer printing.

Mayor Kevin Lincoln expressed his pleasure in learning that the state had awarded the city this funding to make Columbus Park a safe place that can be enjoyed by families. He said that the park is in a disadvantaged community in the city and has many needs. He added he is grateful to the partners in the community who have helped with outreach in the community, and expressed his excitement that amenities will be provided in the park that will meet the desires and needs of the residents.

Designing the new amenities and preparing for construction will be the first phase of the project. The grant has been approved by the State of California Natural Resources Agency, Department of Parks and Recreation and will be allocated through the Proposition 68 Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Program. Construction is expected to begin in 2023.
