A pub on the Miracle Mile in Stockton is undertaking the restoration of three murals it had commissioned in the late 1990s.
At the time, Eric Davis and Kellie Craig, owners of Valley Brew, had commissioned Carlos Lopez, a painter of murals in Stockton, to create three murals on its building along the back wall. The murals showed some of the beers served at the pub. Since that time, the murals have weathered, and the paint is chipped and cracked.
The Graffiti Abatement Society, which eliminates graffiti affecting businesses and also helps to create jobs in the process, and the Central Valley Asian Chamber of Commerce, were looking for a community service project and became aware of the need to restore these murals. Executive director of the Graffiti Abatement Society, Dennis Cochran, and executive director of the Chamber of Commerce, Leslie Edman, both felt that a partnership between the two organizations on such a project was ideal, as the Chamber is always seeking projects of particular help to small businesses. The undertaking of such projects is often made known throughout a community with banner printing.
Volunteers are in the process of helping Cochran in this work. Cochran said that the goal is to restore the paintings by keeping the good areas and matching new paint with existing colors to ensure a seamless restoration of the mural.
