As the city of Stockton plans to move into a new headquarters on the south side of the waterfront in the downtown area, negotiations are underway for the purchase and development of the old City Hall building.
Cort Cos. is looking to reuse the building for community event and office space, commercial and retail establishments, housing, and open green space. Cort Cos. would also purchase buildings owned by the city just south of City Hall that are now used as the city annex and permit center. These areas and the location of an old auto repair shop would become the site of a multi-family market-rate residential complex.
Once plans like these are approved, banner printing can be used at the relevant sites to inform the community of developments and their progress.
The director of economic development for Stockton, Carrie Wright, said that this is a good opportunity as more affordable housing in the area will bring more people to live, work, and enjoy the downtown.
The assistant director of economic development for Stockton, Janice Miller, added that if this project for City Hall is completed, it will strengthen the connection of the downtown to other venues in the city. These include the Cesar Chavez Central Library, the ballpark and arena, and Weber Point as there has been a growing interest in reviving the downtown area of Stockton.
