Stockton food bank receives fresh produce

One of the first food banks in California to receive Boxes of produce from the United States Department of Agriculture is the Emergency Food Bank of Stockton/San Joaquin County.

This is part of a Farmers to Families Food Box Program that is giving out $1.2 billion to support farmers and ease insecurities about food across the country. The food bank has received 650 Boxes filled with fresh vegetables.

Banner printing is often used in the area to make people aware of such programs.

Susan Talamantes Eggman, an Assemblywoman from Stockton, said such programs help to make people more aware of not only how to keep people and businesses healthy but of the importance of food production and how to keep farms healthy as well. She added that these programs also enable the agriculture economy to stay strong at this time and to ensure that all parts of the government are working together to serve and support those in need.

Chairman of the Board of the food bank, Steve Morales, said that there will be weekly distributions of the food, with close to 2,000 Boxes being delivered each week. CEO of the Emergency Food Bank, Leonard Hansen, added that in the upcoming months it is planned that 33,500 people per month will receive a box of quality, fresh produce.

Distributions will take place from 9:00 a.m. to noon weekdays at the food bank.
