A concert for the city of Stockton that will be free to the community will be hosted in a few days by rapper Common. The 47-year-old is the first rapper to win an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, a Grammy, and an Emmy, along with his nonprofit organization Imagine Justice.
As well as providing the audience with an evening of live music and more, Common and Imagine Justice will design their program to celebrate those organizations and leaders that make a difference in the community, and enable others to feel empowered to build a better future for themselves based on the issues of social justice.
Several groups will be partnering with Imagine Justice. These include Rise Stockton, the Office of Violence Prevention from the city of Stockton, Advance Peace, and Stockton Scholars. Poster printing can be used to promote such concerts that celebrate the community.
Common won two Grammy awards, one in 2003 and the other in 2007. Along with John Legend, he won the Best Original Song at the Golden Globe and at the Academy Awards in 2014. He earned an Emmy for a socially conscious song in a documentary film.
The concert will be held this Friday, June 7 from 6:30 to 9:00 pm at the Stockton Memorial Civic Auditorium. The most popular food trucks in Stockton will be arriving beginning at 3:30 pm.
