San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton will be holding several events next month to celebrate Latinx Heritage Month.
There will be a performance of “La Vida Loca,” at the Tillie Lewis Theatre. Presented in a serious, comical, and sometimes confrontational way, the performance tells the tale of a homosexual Mexican who immigrated to California and the prejudice and discrimination to which he was exposed. Written and performed entirely by Carlos-Manuel Chavarria, the show will be at 6:00 pm on Friday, October 4.
The annual Indigenous People’s Day Dance will enable attendees to learn about rich native traditions through discussion and performance. This event will be held on the President’s Patio, at the front of Goleman Library, on Thursday, October 10 at 12:30 pm.
There will also be the new “Latinx: Art Beyond the Border” exhibition at the L.H. Horton Jr. Gallery. An opening reception will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, October 17 with light refreshments being served. The exhibit will run through November 7.
Other initiatives will be taking place throughout the month at the campus. Books about the Latinx experience can be found at the Goleman Library. Danner Hall will have an exhibit about Bracero history. There will also be special giveaways throughout the month.
Poster printing can be used so that a campus community is made aware of these special events.
