Funds awarded in Sorrento Valley area for clean energy

Grants of over $1.2 million will be given by Calpine Energy Solutions, the San Diego Foundation, and San Diego Community Power for green workforce development and clean energy projects in San Diego County.

These grants will be given to 16 organizations and can benefit those in the Sorrento Valley area. Announcements like this and their benefits for a region are often made known with flyer printing.

Jen Nation, executive director of Olivewood Gardens and Learning Center where the announcement was made, said that the gardens will soon be running on solar power and will be a center for education about electricity. Nation added that this project will not only provide reliable and clean power, but will create a more resilient and sustainable future for the community. Nation is hoping to be an inspiration for other organizations to offer workforce opportunities and educational workshops about clean energy with funds from this grant.

Among the organizations receiving grants of $100,000 each were San Diego 350, La Mesa Park and Recreation Foundation, Hammond Climate Solutions Foundation, I Am Green Inc., and GRID Alternatives San Diego.

The San Diego Foundation will be administering the grants on behalf of Calpine Energy Solutions and Community Power. Calpine Energy provides back-office support to Community Power and other providers of energy throughout the state.
