National Hispanic heritage month to be celebrated in Sorrento Valley area

Currently underway at San Diego State University (SDSU) is the celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, which recognizes the many achievements of its Hispanic faculty, staff, students, and colleagues.

Residents of the Sorrento Valley area might want to participate in some if these unique events.

The theme for this year is “Without Fear: Carry Your Culture with Pride.” It reflects the voices of students as they call for messages of resilience and empowerment, and draws on the unity of the Hispanic community while celebrating the pride of its culture. Among the activities will be social gatherings, educational programs, cultural celebrations, and groups that highlight the diverse voices of the Hispanic community.

Such special celebrations can be promoted throughout a college campus and community with poster printing.

Planned for later this week is the Latinx Community Social and Pachanga at the Latinx Resource Center (LRC). The Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) Office and the LRC will welcome new Hispanic faculty and recognize achievements in the community, with entertainment, live music, food, giveaways for students, and a Pachanga. This will be from 4:30 pm to 9:00 pm on Thursday, October 2.

The LRC will also be collaborating with the Wellness and Health Promotions’ Mobi to host a cooking demonstration featuring chilaquiles, a traditional Latin American dish. This will be from noon to 1:00 pm on Thursday, October 9.
