College in Sorrento Valley area offers Spanish for adults

The Division of Extended Studies at the University of California at San Diego (UCSD) has new program that enriches Latino students.

Mi Universidad is a free program that offers 14 courses from the sciences to the arts and has an enrollment of 900 students. These courses are taught in Spanish and are offered to adult Latino students who can earn college credits for the courses.

Although over 30 percent of the student population lives in Mexico, there are students taking courses at Mi Universidad, so that those from the Sorrento Valley area might be interested in such courses. Students can also take courses online and many of these students are from Canada and Latin America.

Assistant Dean, UCSD Education and Community Outreach, Morgan Appel, said that regardless of where the students are, they all feel very much connected. Appel added that this program offers many opportunities for access and equity for the Latino community.

More details about such programs and their offerings can be provided with brochure printing.

Students can now register for the winter semester which runs from Wednesday January 17 through Wednesday March 20. A new course is being added for the semester for parents that will enable them to help their child navigate the college system. Students need not be citizens of the United States.
