San Ramon to undertake road and trail project

Work on the Iron Horse Trail Bollinger Canyon Road Bicycle and Pedestrian Overcrossing Project in San Ramon has begun, with construction to get underway late this summer.

The goal of this project is to improve the flow of vehicular traffic; improve overall safety by eliminating conflicts among bicycles, pedestrians, and vehicles; encourage use of the trail by bicyclists and pedestrians; and to increase use of the trail by schools in the area by improving crossings at Crow Canyon Road and Bollinger Canyon Road.

Drivers will find that there will be fewer traffic signal delays, which will mean improvements to traffic circulation on Crow Canyon and Bollinger Canyon Roads. Trail users will find that the proposed overcrossings will separate bicyclists and pedestrians from vehicles on those roads as well. The decision on the design of the bridge and overcrossing architecture was made by the San Ramon City Council with input from the community.

Local Print shops often get involved in various printing services to inform residents about such projects and their benefits for the community.

The cost of the project – including design, construction, management, and inspection – is expected to be $29.1m. It is being funded by $2.8m in long-term debt, $13.2m in Measure J advance funds, $10.5m in grants, and $2.5m from other funds from the city.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
