The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District will be holding a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) workshop next month.
This program is free and prepares and educates participants how to actively respond should some disaster impact the area. The program will teach participants basic disaster response skills and how they should use these skills to help neighbors, themselves, and the rest of the community when there is a need which may overwhelm first responders.
Among the topics to be covered will be fire safety; light search and rescue; disaster psychology and preparedness; and triage and medical operations during a disaster. At the end of the program, participants are sworn in as Disaster Service Worker (DSW) Volunteers for the District. In addition, members of CERT will be able to participate in ongoing events and training and in periodic neighborhood area activities to refresh and leverage the skills they learned in the course.
More details about such courses and how to register can be provided with flyer printing.
DSW volunteers play a vital role across the state by supporting rescue teams and first responders during declared states of emergency, times of war, or local disaster situations. They also provide essential assistance with recovery efforts in the aftermath of catastrophic events.
This program will run Saturday April 18, Sunday April 19, and Sunday April 26 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
