Chestnut has worked in law enforcement for over 20 years. She joined the San Ramon Police Department in 2015 as an officer in the Patrol and Crime Prevention and Community Resource Divisions. She then joined the Community Resource and Crime Prevention Division as a police corporal in November 2016. Three years later she was promoted to Police Sergeant, first serving in the Patrol Division and then the Professional Standards Division.
Since 2023, she has been a captain of the San Ramon Police Department. She has played an important role in the Peer Support Program of the departments and served on the board of the Police Officers Association of the department from 2016 to 2021.

Chestnut expressed her honor in serving the community of San Ramon and to lead the dedicated women and men of the department. She said she is committed to supporting everyone on the team so they can continue to maintain the trust of the community and to provide exceptional service.
Chestnut will start her new position on Monday, December 15.
