San Ramon opens banner program for military personnel

The San Ramon Military Banner Program has opened applications to honor retired members, active-duty members, and veterans of the armed forces of the United States. Banners can be sponsored by both organizations and individuals.

The name, rank, branch of the service, duty status, and a photograph of the honoree in their uniform will be presented in the banner. San Ramon Valley Boulevard is where the banners will hang for at least 30 days during the month of November. Once they have been displayed, the sponsors will receive the banners.

Criteria for selecting individuals for the banners include being someone who currently lives in the city or has immediate members of the family in the area. A former resident of San Ramon can also qualify who has demonstrated a positive and long-term impact on the community. The city needs to approve of such individuals. To be included in the applications are proof of residency, verification of military service, and a photograph of the honoree in their uniform.

Each banner is double sided and is 30 inches by 94 inches. The cost is $240. Applications are reviewed as they are submitted, and available locations will be reserved until capacity is reached. After that, registration will close.
