A resolution has been approved by the San Ramon City Council that will eliminate millions of dollars in service and impact fees for housing developments, where all the units are affordable to households that earn 80% or lower of the area median income.
Staff from the city recommended this resolution to enable it to meet its quota for its Regional Housing Needs Allocation (RHNA). This resolution will help to incentivize the construction of affordable housing units, particularly for city workers like firefighters, police officers, and teachers, by removing many fees associated with such housing. The resolution will also enable the city to apply for several federal and state credits that help to finance affordable housing.

Among the fees that would be waived under this resolution for qualifying developments are the general plan recovery fee; the school age childcare fee; the parks and recreation facility impact fee; and the city traffic impact fee.
Vice Mayor Sridhar Verose said there will be some fiscal impact with the waiver of these fees but overall, the city will be helped a great deal. Verose added that it will enable the city to meet its EHNA numbers and more of the city’s workforce will be able to live in San Ramon.
