The Community Academy is being offered by the San Ramon Police Department this fall.
The goal of the program is to explain law enforcement procedures, create beneficial partnerships with the community, and discuss how important it is for the public to be involved in the policing process.
Held over 14 weeks in a classroom, the course offers a mix of demonstrations and lectures. Each class is held for three hours and is taught by personnel from the department and police officers in their area of expertise. Among the topics to be covered will be criminal investigations, crime scenes, traffic stops, patrol, officer safety, and community policing. There will also be field trips to the high-speed driving course of the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office and to the Marsh Creek shooting range.

All adults who are 18 years old and older and who live or work in San Ramon can participate in the academy. Those who are interested need to complete an application and submit it to the San Ramon Police Department. All applicants will undergo a background check.
The program will run from Wednesday, August 14 to Wednesday, October 30. Applications need to be submitted by no later than Tuesday, July 30.
