San Ramon offers rebates for additional dwelling units

A Rebate Program for Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU) has been launched by the city of San Ramon for its residents. An ADU is a detached or attached dwelling unit on a lot which has a single family of multi-family home.

A grant of $154,319 from the ADU Accelerator Program of Senate District 7 is funding this rebate and is designed to accelerate or advance the creation of ADUs with a series of programs. Using ADUs is one way that the city can address the need for more housing in communities throughout the city.

Rebates of up to $7,500 can be given to homeowners if they obtain a building permit issued after April 1, 2025, for the construction of a market rate ADU. The final building inspection of the ADU needs to be completed by August 31, 2026, or within 18 months, whichever comes first. The size of the ADU determines the amount of the rebate; it is considered that smaller ADUs can be more affordable for potential tenants.

Only one rebate is allowed per individual or per single-family residential lot. The units need to be 1,000 square feet or smaller and rebates will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis until all the funds have been spent or when the program ends on August 31, 2026.

Brochure printing can be used to provide more details about such programs and the application process.
