San Ramon appoints new public works director

Brian Bornstein will be the new public works director of San Ramon.

Bornstein began his career in civil engineering in 1994 at Brown and Caldwell as an assistant engineer, after earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California (UC) Davis. He worked on site civil design and specifications as well as several sanitary sewer projects in the area.

He joined the city of Brentwood in 1998 and spent nine years in various engineering roles. He managed capital projects, provided a review of commercial and residential developments, and managed the infrastructure for new schools which were opening every year.

Bornstein has worked for San Ramon since 2007 where he started as a senior engineer. He was a project manager, supervised the Dougherty Valley Development for a 25-year project build-out, and supervised Development Engineering and Encroachment programs.

Promoted to city engineer and division manager of the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department of San Ramon in 2012, Bornstein supervised several programs related to traffic engineering, engineering inspection, and development engineering.

Steven Spedowfski, city manager, said that Bornstein has played a significant role in enhancing the infrastructure of the city and in successfully completing many projects throughout his tenure with the city of San Ramon, making him the ideal person for this position.
