Carlson’s career as a police officer began when he became a Deputy Sheriff in the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff in 1998. His service to the community of San Ramon began in 2002 when he was a contract officer for the Sheriff’s Department of Contra Costa.
In addition to his responsibilities within the Police Department, Carlson has been the director of Office of Emergency Management for the city of San Ramon.
David Hudson, mayor of San Ramon, said that Carlson has been serving this community for the past 20 years and has been instrumental in shaping several important parts of the department. He said that the city is fortunate to have selected Carlson as the next Chief of Police for the city.
