Superstar Filipino band coming to San Francisco

The most successful rock band in the Philippines is coming to San Francisco.

Eraserheads is on tour, and is stopping in the City by the Bay. Eraserheads first got together in 1989, comprising Raimund Marasigan, Marcus Adoro, Buddy Zabala, and Ely Buendia. They are the most successful and influential Filipino band in music history in the islands. They are sometimes called the “Beatles of the Philippines” and have sold nine million records during their career this far.

Their 1993 debut album was the fabulously titled “Ultraelectromagneticpop!”, which they followed up with “Circus” in 1994 and “Cutterpillow” in 1996. Their success made it possible for additional Filipino rock bands to break through in the 1990s. In addition, at the MTV Video Music Awards in 1997 in New York, Eraserheads won the International Viewer’s Choice Award, the only Filipino band to win this honor before the MTV Asia Awards were established.

They have disbanded and reformed several times, and tour sporadically. A review of a concert says:

“Overall, it was “magical,” but “fun,” in the words of Villena. And indeed it was.”

The band is appearing at The Warfield, a historic venue in downtown San Francisco that first opened in 1922 as a vaudeville theater.

Eraserheads will be at The Warfield on July 12 at 8.00 pm. Venues promoting this kind of entertainment will often work with printers who use poster printing techniques to create suitable advertising.
