Marco Antonio Muñiz (stage name Marc Anthony) was raised in the East Harlem neighborhood of New York City. As a child, he enjoyed listening to pop artists like Air Supply, in addition to Latin stars such as Willie Colón and Hector Lavoe. His father taught music theory to both Marc and his sister, and demo producer David Harris discovered them and subsequently hired Anthony to sing backup in several productions.
“When the Night is Over,” Anthony’s debut album, dropped in 1991. Little Louie Vega, a producer and DJ, was vital in getting the album made. The song “Ride on the Rhythm” is on this album, and went to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Dance Music Chart. Sergio George, a widely recognized producer, was behind Anthony’s next and possibly best-known album, “Otra Nota.”
Anthony has continued to record and is one of the best-selling Tropical Salsa artists ever, racking up worldwide sales exceeding 12 million albums, and winning two Grammys. A concert review says:
“I am still under the amazing spell.”
Marc Anthony will be at the Chase Center on March 10. Events like this can be effectively publicized when organizers use poster printing to create striking advertising about the performance.
