Playground renovations at McLaren Park

McLaren Park is the third-largest park in San Francisco, and the playground there is being renovated using a plan that will give visitors great views of the city.

At 312 acres, McLaren Park is small compared to the Presidio, with 1,491 acres, and Golden Gate Park, which sprawls over 1,017 acres. However, the park is located in the southern part of the city, affording visitors giving a considerably different view of San Francisco to those they enjoy from the larger parks.

Among the renovations planned for the playground are timbers and boulders to encourage climbers to have fun, and a large climbing structure made of net that will give children, as well as adults who decide to give it a try, great views of the city from its southern end.

The renovated play area covers about three-quarters of an acre, and is on Shelley Drive, which is inside the park. The Portola and Excelsior neighborhoods are the ones nearest the playground. Officials can use poster printing to create Signs to invite people to come to playgrounds like this one.

The renovation of the McLaren playground is part of the ‘Let's Play SF! Initiative’, which targets 13 playgrounds throughout the city for improvement. The budget for the McLaren effort is $3.65m, and will address the condition of the playground, which was first build early in the 1980s. Concerns about safety due to the condition of the lumber led to the playground's removal.
