Master guitarist coming to San Francisco

A singer/songwriter/guitarist who tasted fame as part of Genesis is coming to San Francisco.

Steve Hackett was Genesis’s lead guitarist from 1971 until 1977, and during his tenure he contributed to seven singles, six studio albums, one EP, and three live albums. During his time with the outstanding group, artists like Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel were also members of the band.

In 1975, while he was still with Genesis, Hackett released a solo effort, the album “Voyage of the Acolyte.” After he released more solo albums, he and Steve Howe founded GTR, a supergroup, in 1986. GTR’s initial album was self titled, and climbed to the No. 11 spot in the United States. A single from the album, “When the Heart Rules the Mind,” became a Top 20 hit. When GTR disbanded, Hackett went back to performing solo, and tours regularly.

Hackett’s work includes many styles besides progressive rock, such as world music, blues, pop, and classical. Guitar World has said his playing methods are:
“. . . far ahead of their time. . .”

and that he was an influence on Brian May and Eddie Van Halen. Steve Rothery and Alex Lifeson have also indicated they were influenced by Hackett. A review says:
“An amazing show. Steve and the band seem to be getting better every year.”

Steve Hackett will be at the Palace of Fine Arts on Tuesday, November 14. When an event like this is planned, organizers can use poster printing to create advertising to promote it.
