The Chairman, a favorite San Francisco food truck operation, has expanded to include a permanent location.
The truck is also operating in the Tenderloin District, at 670 Larkin Street. Fans of the vehicle, which bears the logo of a bright red panda, are no doubt delighted to discover they can get their favorite Vietnamese sandwiches, known as baos, in one place, instead of having to chase the truck all over the city. The Chairman, which has been part of San Francisco's food truck operation for decades, has a devoted following.
The Chairman’s permanent home is in an area with many other Vietnamese restaurants, and is a fast-casual concept that offers counter service. There are stools lining the walls for those who prefer to dine in, but most customers appear to want a takeout service. The menu features favorites from the truck's offerings, but includes a number of new items.
The Chairman offers its baos two ways: either on a baked bun that resembles a hamburger, or on a steamed bun. Sandwiches include braised short rib of beef with horseradish, garnished with Japanese curry and fennel slaw, while a noodle salad garners high praise for its mix of flavors.
The Chairman's operators could work with a flyer printing company on a handout that informs truck customers about the brick-and-mortar store, and shares its menu.
