Ex-Maniac coming to San Francisco

A songwriter/singer who was the lead singer of an alt-rock band for more than ten years is coming to San Francisco.

Natalie Merchant got her start as a member of 10,000 Maniacs, where she was the group’s main lyricist and singer. The group was founded in Jamestown, New York in 1981, and Merchant was their lead vocalist and pianist on seven of their albums, after which she began her solo career. She understood that leaving would have a significant impact on 10,000 Maniacs, so she gave them two years’ warning that she would be leaving.

“Tigerlily” was her first solo album, and it took her two years to compose it. Both critics and fans loved the album, which was the source of two Top 40 hits, “Jealousy” and “Wonder.” The album itself was certified 5x Platinum, climbed to No. 13 on the US Billboard chart, and sold over five million units.

On her own, she has dropped nine albums, with “Keep Your Courage,” the latest, released in 2023. A performance review says:
“This was one of the finest live concerts that I have ever been to. The chamber orchestra that joined Natalie was one of a kind. Natalie was friendly, spontaneous and warm”

Natalie Merchant will be at The Masonic in San Francisco on May 30. Colorful Posters often advertise events like this, and they can be created by concert organizers using poster printing.
