Enjoy classical music by the bay

Fans of classical music will be able to enjoy the work of one of the world's greatest composers in an upcoming concert.

The San Francisco Symphony will present Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 6. Michael Tilson Thomas will be on the podium for the event, and the symphony is the only work on the program.

Tilson Thomas made his debut with the San Francisco Symphony in 1974, and in 1995, became its Music Director, the eleventh in the orchestra's history. During his career, Tilson Thomas has won 12 Grammys, 11 of them for recordings he made with the San Francisco Symphony. He is also Conductor Laureate of the London Symphony Orchestra, which he once served as Principal Conductor and Principal Guest Conductor.

A review of his recent performance of Mahler's Fifth called him:

“a perfect Mahler conductor, able to control the big picture while being alert to the symphony's multicultural inner life.”

Mahler's No. 6 is sometimes called the “Sechste Sinfonie (Tragische)”, or “Sixth Symphony (Tragic),” although there is dispute over whether or not Mahler actually gave it a nickname. The masterful piece is in four movements, and is approximately 80 minutes in length. It was first performed in Essen, Germany, in 1906, with Mahler himself conducting.

The “MTT & Mahler” concert is scheduled for March 6 at 8.00 pm, at Davies Symphony Hall. Tickets are on sale now. Brochure printing is the perfect medium to use to create informative programs for this type of event.
