Band to raise San Fran noise levels

A band that made its name in the noise-rock and indie-rock genres is coming to San Francisco.

Early in the 1990s, four musicians from Asheville, North Carolina, got together to form Archers of Loaf. The founders were Eric Bachman on guitar and vocals, Mark Price on drums, bassist Matt Gentling, and Eric Johnson on guitar.

The band’s first release was a single, “Wrong,” which they dropped in 1992, winning them the notice of Alias Records. They released “Web in Front” on that label in 1993, and saw it used in an episode of “Beavis and Butt-Head,” and in the 1995 film “Mallrats.” They followed up the singles by releasing their full-length debut album, “Icky Mettle,” which won critical praise and reached No. 18 on the CMJ New Music Monthly Top 150 Album charts, remaining on the chart for 21 weeks.

The outfit broke up in 1998 but reunited in 2011. Their latest album, “Reason in Decline,” was released last year.

A review says:

“The ’90s was an era of noisy distorted guitars, and few acts did it better than Archers of Loaf. It was so good to see that, after all of these years, the group hasn’t lost its fire.”

Archers of Loaf will be at the Great American Music Hall on Wednesday, February 8, with Ducks Ltd. as the special guest. Organizers of event like this can use poster printing to create advertising for them.
