Taste of December Nights revamped as a drive-thru event
The City of San Diego has announced a reimagined Taste of December Nights designed to protect participants from exposure to COVID-19 while offering culinary choices from local food vendors.
Taking place across from Balboa park at Inspiration Point, the 2020 version of this popular festival will be a three-day event taking place from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm, December 4 to 6. On each of the three days, a commemorative tote bag filled with giveaway items will be presented to the first 500 vehicles to show up.
Vendors participating in events such as this generally take the opportunity to distribute business cards or menus purchased from print shops.
Acknowledging the differences of this year’s events compared to previous years, Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer stated:
The annual December Nights festival is San Diego’s biggest free event and has, over the past 40 or more years, accommodated hundreds of thousands of visitors. In years past, the event has been held in Balboa Park and included over 150 food booths, as well as about 100 performances and various shopping options.
This year, attendees must stay in their cars and wear masks. Pedestrians, and riders of bicycles and scooters, will be prohibited from the event this year due to health concerns.

“While we will miss the traditional December Nights celebration, we’re excited to offer San Diegans the opportunity this holiday season to still try out the amazing food offerings that only December Nights could bring together.”
