Two genres of rock headed to San Diego
Rock music has a huge number of subgenres, and representatives from two of them are coming to San Diego. Counting Crows is a rock band, and the group touring with them, The Gaslight Anthem, is a punk rock outfit. Together they should have fans on their feet.
Counting Crows formed in 1991 in San Francisco, and have worldwide sales of over 20 million records. The breakthrough was in 1993, when they filled in for Van Morrison at the Induction Ceremony for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Geffen Records signed them and released “August and Everything After,” their debut, which remained on the charts for 93 weeks, earning them a spot on a Rolling Stones tour. They have released eight studio albums thus far. A review says:
The Gaslight Anthem, which is with Island Records, formed in New Jersey in 2006. The band had two critically praised releases, but didn’t break through until 2008 with their album “The ’59 Sound,” which emusic called it 2008’s “Best Album of the Year.” A review says:
