Scripps Health in San Diego has sent a trauma team to the Asian nation of Nepal as it looks to recover from the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred recently.

The president and CEO of Scripps Health, Chris Van Gorder, told the media that the team was finalizing its roster and would be ready to go immediately. He also noted that the team doesn't know precisely where it will be sent since no mobile field hospital will be deployed, and it could find itself anywhere in Nepal.

One of those on the team is ER physician Mark Olcott, who has been on many of these rescue missions, including three trips to Haiti. Dr. Olcott said people in the area are sending information to the Scripps people, telling them what they are likely to find when they get to Nepal.

Olcott noted preparation is taking place both for the short term, and the long term, with emphasis on keeping the team members safe as they work to help others. Trauma injuries are expected, as are problems with people who have chronic conditions exacerbated by inability to continue normal treatment.

Scripps officials could work with a flyer printing company on a mailer for residents describing the rescue efforts and asking for support.
