San Diego State University recently received a donation of $200,000 to help fund lesbian and gay programs.

According to an item from CBS8 Television, a CBS affiliate in San Diego, local philanthropist David Gubser gave $100,000 to the university for LGBT studies, and is leaving an equal amount to its Pride Center in his will. Gubser said that people in general need to become better educated with regard to the LGBT community, and he believed a gift to SDSU for its programs was the best way to accomplish this goal.

Gubser is a strong supporter of LGBT programs and organizations, and has a history of donating to these efforts throughout Southern California. He has recently extended his generosity to universities and colleges. At SDSU, his gift will allow the Pride Center to expand its programs to include guest speakers, academic mentoring, and training in health and safety. The money will also create a scholarship for students majoring in LGBT studies, the first such scholarship in California's State University system, and only the second in North America. SDSU created its LGBT Studies Program in 2012, as part of its College of Arts and Letters.

Gubser said he hopes to create similar scholarship programs at UCLA, his father's alma mater, as well as UC San Diego.
