Born in New York City and raised in Dallas, Shlesinger attended the Greenhill School, a private institution, in Addison, Texas. She studied languages but also got involved in improvisation, and went on to perform with ComedySportz Dallas. She studied at Boston's Emerson College, majoring in film. She also refined her skills as an editor and writer. Her education has come in handy, as she has written a number of specials, as well as hosting or starring in television series and films.
In 2008, Shlesinger won “Last Comic Standing,” while “Warpaint,” a comedy special that marked her debut, was one of iTunes' most-downloaded programs. That success brought her to the notice of Netflix, which picked up “Freezing Hot,” her next special.
Shlesinger specializes in taking aim at the myths that abound about women, and gender relations in general. She also explains how she can tame the “party goblin” that appears when she has too much to drink.
A review of Shlesinger in performance says:
“Iliza was hilarious - the show was fantastic - better than expected (and we had high hopes).”
Shlesinger will be at the San Diego Civil Theatre at 7:00 pm on October 3. When this type of event is scheduled, poster printing is often used to create advertising.
