San Diego Symphony to play concert for military

The San Diego Symphony is planning a concert soon to honor members of the military.

The “Concert Under the Stars: 2019 Summer Military Appreciation Concert” is an annual event that pays tribute to the many military personnel and their families who call San Diego home. Maestro Stuart Chafetz will be on the podium, and Broadway star N'Kenge will be the special guest.

N'Kenge collaborated with Maestro Chafetz last year on a 4th of July concert with the Chautauqua Symphony, and says she is thrilled to be able to work with him again. She is particularly looking forward to this event as a way to honor the military. She added that she and Maestro Chafetz enjoy having fun on stage, and hope to create the same excitement and fun for the audience.

N'Kenge is currently working on the “Dorothy Dandridge: Hollywood's Sepia Goddess,” a show based on the life of the first African-American woman to be nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress, Dorothy Dandridge. She also has concerts planned with the Naples Philharmonic; Christmas-time concerts in Montana and New York City; and will tour with the Dandridge show before taking it to Broadway.

The concert is set for 7.00 pm on August 11, with family-friendly events taking place before the concert, starting at 5.30 pm. The venue is Embarcadero Marina Park South, and the concert is free to the military, who may reserve tickets from their website. Flyer printing can be used to create programs for events like this.
