San Diego has new fire chief

After a nationwide search that lasted three months, San Diego’s mayor, Kevin Faulconer, chose Colin Stowell to take over as chief of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. Soon after the announcement, the city council voted to confirm Stowell, who has already assumed his duties.

Stowell has spent most of his career with the San Diego Fire Department, which he first joined in 1988. He rose steadily through the department to the rank of Assistant Chief, which he held when he left in 2016. At that time, he took over as the head of Heartland Fire & Rescue, the agency that serves Lemon Grove, La Mesa, and El Cajon.

Stowell said he was honored and humbled to be asked to return to the department where he began his career as a firefighter more than 30 years ago. He went on to say that having the appointment confirmed by the city council is an expression of trust in him on the part of San Diego officials, who are giving him their approval as he undertakes the task of leading what he calls a “great organization” with “dedicated members.”

Stowell is a native of San Diego, and lives in the city with his wife and their two teenagers. When people receive promotions like this, they can work with a business card printing company to create cards that reflect their new title.
