What's Happening in Poway, CA…

A local band is throwing a party to celebrate the release of their new recording.

The Color Forty Nine is based in San Diego and is getting set to release its first EP, the self-titled “The Color Forty Nine.” They draw much of their inspiration from the interaction between San Diego and Tijuana, Mexico, just across the border, and the connection between the cities. However, their music is difficult to confine to a specific genre, with one critic writing:

“This isn’t something you hear every day, it’s dark and brooding, yet an uplifting and jubilant classic at the same time.”

All band members are multi-instrumentalists who have played extensively in the area, in bands such as Manuok, Via Satellite, Pinback, Album Leave, and Black Heart Procession, among others. The wide-ranging experience has given them the depth to create their distinctive sound. The lineup currently is Phil Beaumont, Matt Resovich on violin, drummer Jason Hooper, and Scott Mercado filling out the rhythm section. Flyer printing is frequently used to create handouts advertising events like this.

The group will be at The Casbah on Kettner Boulevard in San Diego this evening, July 23. Although tickets are only $5, The Casbah is making the evening a fundraiser on behalf of the Museum School, a San Diego school that teaches the basics but goes beyond fundamental concepts to include media arts, movements, sewing, music, and art as part of the curriculum. Additional donations are welcome.
