New restaurant planned for revitalized San Diego Embarcadero

The City of San Diego, in partnership with the Port of San Diego and the Centre City Development Corporation (CCDC), has been working on redeveloping the Embarcadero, under a plan called the North Embarcadero Visionary Plan.

The multiphase plan calls for moving Harbor Drive 40 feet east of its present location to make room for an esplanade along Harbor Drive between the former Navy Pier and the B Street Pier. The renovations include groves of trees, public art, open spaces, but also leave the San Diego waterfront as it has always been—a working port.

Now, according to a May 22, 2015 news item, one of the first businesses has moved into the renovated area, and opened in the waterfront pavilion that was recently completed. Carnitas' Snack Shack is leasing space from the Port of San Diego to operate a beer garden and walkup cafe. This will be the third Carnitas' restaurant in the San Diego area. It opened its first location in North Park in 2011, and last year opened a second location near Del Mar.

This location will include a beer garden serving craft beers, and the menu, which is slanted toward pork dishes (“carnitas” is Spanish for “barbecued pork”), will use as many local sources as possible for its recipes.

Carnitas' managers could work with a flyer printing company to design a handout. They could arrange to distribute the flyer near the new location, inviting patrons to try the restaurant.
