Seattle-based retailer Nordstrom has opened a new store in University Town Center (UTC) in San Diego. The store has been under construction for two years. During the opening day, employees used their arms to create a tunnel for the first customers to walk through as they entered the store.
The new location is near the original Nordstrom site in UTC, but is far larger, allowing the store to stock more brands, giving shoppers more options. In addition, the store houses Bazille Restaurant, a change from the usual Nordstrom food service, which is usually a cafe.
Bazille has a bistro-type menu featuring starters like french onion soup; salads; sandwiches; pizza; and entrees including roasted chicken, salmon, and flatiron steak. The restaurant also offers a full bar.
Nordstrom spokespeople say the retailer's aim is to make everyone's shopping trips luxurious.
The opening is good news for many people who were shocked when Nordstrom closed its store in Horton Plaza, in downtown San Diego. That location has been open for 31 years, going into operation as one of the plaza's original anchor tenants. The doors were closed for the final time in August; there is no word yet on what will happen to that space.
Opening events like this are a good opportunity for companies to further engage customers by distributing various types of Promotional Products to the first shoppers.
