Richard Marx and John Waite are coming to San Diego. Marx has sold more than 30 million records during his career, getting started when Lionel Richie invited him to sing on Richie’s first album.
He became a session singer for artists like Whitney Houston and Madonna, and dropped “Richard Marx,” in 1987, which sold almost four million Copies and featured the monster hits “Right Here Waiting” and “Satisfied.” Marx has won a Grammy and 14 ASCAP Pop Music Awards. A review says:
“Absolutely spectacular. . . . Just Richard Marx on stage with a piano, his guitars and some candles. It was all he needed.”
English musician John Waite is a singer/songwriter who first tasted fame as a member of The Babys, a hard rock band based in London. The Babys released “The Babys” in 1977, and the single “Isn’t It Time” was a hit. They made the charts again with “Everything I Think of You”, but disbanded in 1981.
Chrysalis Records signed him, and he broke through with his second album for them, “No Brakes.” The single “Missing You” went to No. 1 and sent the album into Gold status. A review says:
“John is perfection. There is no other way to say it.”
