A musician whose career literally started by accident will perform in San Diego, where he is now based.

Patrick Yandall is a “military brat” who was born at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was in a freak accident when he was in sixth grade, broke his hip, and spent three months in the hospital. His father, who loved music, and especially jazz, encouraged his son to learn guitar, and that was the beginning.

Yandall fell under the spell of progressive artists like Steely Dan, Yes, and Jimi Hendrix, but was also attracted by the soul and R&B sounds of Stevie Wonder, and EWF. As a young man, Yandall saw a concert with Roy Ayers, Jeff Lorber, and a just-starting-out Kenny G. That single event created Yandall’s vision of instrumentals.

Relocating to San Diego in the 1980s, Yandall has worked in bands throughout Southern California, including doing studio work for Capitol Records in Los Angeles. Working in the studio, he has appeared on releases by artists such as Rod Best and Rocco Ventrella, and occasionally with stars like Tommy Emmanuel and Hollies Gentry III.

Yandall is also a prolific composer, and his work has been featured in films such as “War, Inc.,” and “Fruitvale Station,” and on television shows such as “Raising Hope,” “Young Sheldon,” and others.

Patrick Yandall will be at Humphreys Backstage Live in San Diego on November 5. Shows like this can be publicized successfully when organizers use poster printing.
