Levity brings levity to San Diego

A band that has won praise for its “mash-up” of styles is coming to San Diego.

The four-piece group Levity is from Brighton, England, where they formed in 2014. The founding members were David Duce and George Challiss, who met when they were at the Montreux Jazz Festival, performing with the Sussex University Big Band. They brought other members into the group, only to change the lineup. Along with Duce and Challiss, the group now includes Nick Bowley and Dan Slater. The group membership was solidified in 2016.

They began writing and performing music that combined Blues, Rock, Soul, and Funk, and in 2018, toured the UK to support the release of a single by Early Hours, a South African band. Levity has enjoyed airtime on many radio stations in the UK, including BBC Introducing South.

A look at their biographies reveals that each draws inspiration from different genres of music. Challiss, their frontman, writer, and lead vocalist, likes rock and jazz, while Duce, who plays lead guitar, writes songs, and does backing vocals, likes Britpop and Blues. Dan Slater likes funk and heavy metal, and Nick Bowley favors psychedelic music and rock. A review says:

"Funk, soul and rock. Levity brings these together to deliver a dynamic and exciting sound packed with a lively performance punch!”

Levity will be at SOMA San Diego on December 5. When they schedule events like this, organizers may often use poster printing to create advertising.
