Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons have so much iconic music in their repertoire that they inspired a Broadway musical, “Jersey Boys.” The band formed in Newark, New Jersey, in 1960 as a quartet, with the original line comprising Frankie Valie, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito, and Nick Massi. In the 1970s, the lineup changed slightly to include Valli, John Paiva, Don Ciccone, Gerri Polci, and Lee Shapiro, with Joe Long and Gaudio sitting in at the studio. Both lineups were extraordinarily successful, and the band has racked up lifetime sales of 100 million records throughout the world.
The band released 21 albums between 1962 and 1992, and although their popularity declined somewhat, they have continued to tour successfully. They have had numerous Top 10 hits including the iconic “December, 1963 (Oh What a Night),” which was certified Platinum. Other familiar tunes include “Walk Like a Mom,” “Sherry,” “Rag Doll,” and “Let’s Hang On.” A concert review notes:
