What's Happening in Poway, CA…

A run in honor of an inspiring young man has been scheduled for San Diego. As of the time of writing, it is still hoped that it can go ahead.

The Arizona State University (ASU) Alumni Association coordinates Pat Tillman Honor Runs. Unlike local events, the honor runs are held in various communities throughout the country, though they always take place on the same day. The runs are fun, family-friendly, and casual, covering 4.2 miles, and are fundraisers for the Tillman Scholar Program. Everyone is welcome to join in the run, which often brings military personnel, ASU alumni, and fans of the Sun Devils together.

Pat Tillman was born in San Jose, California, a natural leader whose determination made him a fine student as well as a gifted athlete. He played high school football, despite being told he was too small, and went on to play for the ASU Sun Devils, taking them to the Rose Bowl in 1997. The NFL noticed, and the Arizona Cardinals signed him in 1998. A scholar and a patriot, he loved learning, but also joined the Army, and was lost in action in 2004. The Pat Tillman Scholarship awards are presented to active duty personnel, veterans, and military spouses, who are working to make positive change in the world.

The Tillman Honor Run will hopefully take place April 18, from 8:00 am until 11:00 am, at the Pacific Beach Shore Club on Ocean Boulevard in San Diego, but checking the listing is recommended. Banner printing is often used to mark courses for events like this.
