Ex-Rugburner coming to San Diego

A singer and songwriter who helped found a legendary indie-rock band is coming to San Diego.

Steve Poltz is a native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, but immigrated to Pasadena, California, with his family, then relocated to Palm Springs. He received a degree in political science from the University of San Diego, and met Robert Driscoll, with whom he formed the band The Rugburns. They crossed the country on mammoth tours and still reunite occasionally for shows that are invariably sold out.

He co-wrote “You Were Meant for Me,” a multi-platinum megahit for Jewel, before going solo. He began his recording career in 1998 with “One Left Shoe,” and now has twenty years of recording experience behind him, releasing his latest album, “Stardust & Satellites,” in 2022. He also has numerous singles to his credit. NPR said of him:

“Critics and fans alike now regard Poltz as a talented and prolific songwriter.”

Once insisting “I am San Diego” and would never move to Nashville, Poltz did in fact relocate to the Music City, where he immediately felt at home and wanted to record. The result was the album “Shine On,” released in 2019. He collaborated on the project with the legendary Will Kimbrough, who has worked with Emmylou Harris, and the result is the kind of music that seems almost magical.

Steve Poltz will be at the Music Box on February 16. When they set up events like this, organizers often use poster printing to create advertising for them.
