Broadway en route to San Diego
An actress, singer, and songwriter with Broadway credits is coming to San Diego.
Morgan James is a native of Boise, Idaho, whose career in show business seems natural, as both her parents were actors and educators, and encouraged her to pursue her interest in music. She went to high school in Modesto, California, and realized what she really wanted was to attend the world-famous Julliard School.
She auditioned and was put on a wait list but eventually rejected. However, she refused to give up, and after writing to the head of admissions at Julliard, she convinced him to admit her. She became the seventh vocalist in her class, which is usually limited to six.
She studied opera Julliard and was graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of Music in Voice. However, it took another seven years before she made her Broadway debut, which was in a musical version of “The Addams Family,” in which she worked with Bebe Neuwirth and Nathan Lane. She also appeared in the revival of “Godspell,” and played Teena Marie in “Motown: The Musical.”
Her recording career includes “Hunter,” her debut studio album released in 2014, “Reckless Abandon,” dropped in 2017. Her latest album, “Nobody’s Fool,” appeared in 2023. She is also known for her work Postmodern Jukebox, a jazz collective.
