Alt-rock legend to come to San Diego

An alt-rock singer and songwriter who fronted a successful group for over a decade is now coming to San Diego.

Natalie Merchant kicked off her career as the primary lyricist and lead singer for 10,000 Maniacs, who first got together in 1981 in Jamestown, New York.

She played piano and handled lead vocals for the group on seven studio albums until setting off on her own.

Her first solo effort after leaving 10,000 Maniacs was “Tigerlily,” which she composed over a period of two years. The album was a hit with both fans and critics, and spawned the singles “Jealousy” and “Wonder,” which both hit the Top 40.

The album eventually sold more than five million Copies, was on the US Billboard Charts at No. 13, and earned 5x Platinum status.

She has released nine albums as a solo artist, dropping her most recent, “Keep Your Courage,” in 2023. A concert review says:
“Natalie Merchant . . . has gone on to have a successful solo career on both sides of the Atlantic. Her alt-rock and pop sound has captivated audiences for over two decades with a unique vocal tone and performance style that simply oozes both life and passion for her music.”

Natalie Merchant will now perform at Humphreys Concerts by the Bay on Saturday, 25 and Sunday, 26 May. Organizers of concerts like this will often work with poster printing services to create suitable advertising.
