Redding river riders are able to join the fun this month, with a hundred-mile river race.
The California 100 is going to be held in a couple of weeks, and it promises to both exciting and fun, as paddlers of all ilk set off on a 100-mile river ride. The race will be sponsored by Rivers for Change, an organization dedicated to changing the way people think about rivers and streams, and the way humans interact with them.
The race will take place on the Sacramento River, and will be an around the clock event, including at night. Those who participate will need to bring their own form of conveyance, their own supplies, and hopefully a support team to cheer them on and to drive them to the kick-off point, as well as pick them up at the journey’s end. They might also want to have banner printing done as a means of identification and support.
The California 100 will take place May 23rd through the 25th and will commence at the Sundial Bridge in Redding, and finish in the town of Chico. The event is open to all who wish to participate, though some degree of experience with long distance peddling is advised. There will be a $200 entry fee and required attendance at a prerace safety briefing, as well as check-ins with officials at the end of the race.
