Orange to continue yearly showcase tradition

The city of Orange will be back once again with an annual showcase for the community in early September.

The Orange International Street Fair began in 1973, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the city’s founding. Drawing inspiration from a similar event held in 1910, the OISF found itself an instant hit, becoming incorporated and forming a non-profit in 1985. The non-profit is a separate organization from the city itself.

The celebration highlights several international cultures including Polynesian, Australian, Mexican, Irish, Lebanese, American, Asian, Brazilian, English, Greek, Italian, German, Swiss, and French. Each area will have at least one food vendor, giving guests an opportunity to try cuisine from around the world. These vendors are all non-profits, meaning money spent will go right back to the vendors and their cause. Several areas will also have stages with live performers to add another layer to the atmosphere.

Businesses, non-profits, and artisan crafters will also have booths at the festival. An area aimed for entertaining kids will also be set up with games and crafting activities.

Attending the cultural experience is free. Flyer printing commonly pops up in the course of promoting a locally led event. Day one runs between 5:00pm and 10:00pm, while days two and three are both lasting from 10:00am to 10:00pm. The location is the downtown area, close to Plaza Park.
